What is Vision Education?
Vision education, or holistic vision improvement, is a growing field
in the area of complementary healthcare. Vision educators help their
students take charge of their own vision. They teach important
information and effective techniques which develop healthy vision
habits.
Vision students learn how to lessen their dependence on prescription
lenses, reduce eyestrain, improve their eyesight, and prevent
degenerative eye diseases. Many who practice holistic vision improvement
discover a deeper connection to themselves, to others, and to nature.
Natural vision improvement often requires and nurtures a greater sense
of awareness in the moment, and can lead to personal growth, and
improved overall health. It is a journey of exploration and discovery.
Vision educators teach an educational process; they do not diagnose
or prescribe; they work with medical professionals who provide those
services.
Becoming a Vision Education teacher offers you:
Improvement for your own vision
The opportunity to provide an enjoyable, fulfilling, and
much-needed service
The possibility of changing the current paradigm of vision care
A way of encouraging others to soften, relax, expand and connect
more fully with themselves and the world around them
The freedom of self-employment and of setting your own schedule
Enhancement and diversification for your existing holistic
health practice
Vision Educator Training curriculum includes:
Overview of the field of vision education
Exploration of the mental and physical aspects of vision
The Bates Method
Tools from Vision Therapy Techniques to relieve nearsightedness,
farsightedness, astigmatism and “middle-age sight”
Self-help and support for people with eye diseases
How to work with children
Ways to set up your practice
The art of teaching holistically
Integrating vision improvement with other holistic health
practices
And more …
At the Vision Educator Training Institute you learn to design
holistic vision programs for individuals as well as group classes. You
discover how to work with people who have:
difficulty seeing clearly;
eyestrain, whether from reading, driving or computer use;
sun sensitivity
problems with eye co-ordination.
At the conclusion of this Teacher Certification, graduates have the
opportunity to join the Association of Vision Educators, where you can
list your business and get further support and education.(www.VisionEducators.org)

NEW Addition! Natural Vision Coach
Training and Certification with Greg Marsh
Greg Marsh offers Natural Vision Coach Trainings at various times
through the year. Our current format combines the convenience of only
one week of classes in Colorado, with eight more weeks of participation
from home. The remote learning-from-home portion includes live online
video classes, buddy coaching (with classmates) by phone or skype,
practice coaching in group and/or individual settings, and personal
study of books, audio, and video assignments. The training is centered
around the Bates Method, with EFT, visualizations, and other techniques
included for improved results. The format gives students opportunities
to practice teaching/coaching to the whole class, with classmates, and
then formally with their own practice-clients. Students experience a lot
of success both with their own vision and coaching others as a part of
the training. They finish the program with a support system, and
experience and confidence in their ability as a Natural Vision Coach.

COLLEGE OF VISION EDUCATION
with Margaret Montgomery and Aileen Whiteford
Beginning October 2009
Bates Method of
Natural Eyesight
Professional Teacher Training Diploma Course
4 x six day residential intensive segments starting
October 2009
based near London, England
www.batescve.com
Learn how to teach others to improve their eyesight and take care of
their sight in a natural wholistic way with the College of Vision
Education’s Teacher Training Diploma Course. CVE is an established
training school with an international reputation, training teachers in
the Bates Method of natural eyesight improvement.
We are pleased to announce that we have made some exciting changes to
our training format and announce a new and dynamic teacher training
programme consisting of 4 six day (residential) intensive segments
starting October 2009. All meals and accommodation are included in the
course fees. The venue has been chosen for its accessibility to
airports, trains, buses, etc.
The main focus of the training is on practical experience of the
classical techniques of Dr William H. Bates (1860-1931) taught in an
up-to-date wholistic way.
BATES METHOD
The Bates Method has been practised for nearly one hundred years in all
continents of the world. It has helped countless numbers of people to
discover that poor vision can be both prevented and improved. Every kind
of eyesight difficulty has been helped - even those regarded by medicine
as hopeless. In Great Britain there is a long tradition in the
professional training of teachers of the Bates Method, the natural
method of self-improvement specifically for the eyes, mind and body - in
fact, for the whole person.
CLASSICAL TRADITION - TAUGHT IN AN UP-TO-DATE WAY
We are continuing that tradition by offering a modern, up-to-date course
for people, like yourself, who are interested in working as a Bates
Method Teacher in natural vision education.
As a college committed to excellence we have put together an exciting
and innovative programme of study which will meet the needs of our
students and ensure that they emerge as competent, confident Bates
Teachers.
Each day of the course will provide a variety of learning activities,
for example, lectures, tutorials, seminars, practical sessions, and
supervised clinical experience.
The co-founders and principal teachers of the CVE are practising Bates
Teachers with many years of experience both as teachers and trainers of
teachers.
Comprehensive Training in Natural Eyesight Methods
This
educational programme provides comprehensive training in natural
eyesight methods based on the work of Dr. William Bates. It incorporates
the theory behind the method and its practical application with ongoing,
integrated and supervised clinical practice.
The Bates Method provides a wholistic approach to understanding the
complex nature of eyesight and offers a natural, practical way to
maintain and improve vision. Dr. Bates contended that mental and
physical strain in the form of unconscious, tense vision habits and a
bored, strained mind is the true cause of vision problems. He also
maintained that if eyesight could worsen it could improve. He firmly
believed that the use of corrective lenses contributed to eyesight
deterioration.
In our world where people are becoming more interested in ‘natural
health’ the ‘Method’ is becoming an increasingly popular alternative to
glasses, contact lenses and laser techniques
Bates teachers are not optometrists, and as such, do not diagnose or
prescribe for treatment of eye problems. Clients with eye problems are
encouraged to seek such services from their medical eye specialist.

Spring
2010 with Marc Grossman,
O.D., L.Ac
New Paltz, New York
Philosophy
Our philosophy embraces integrative, complementary and alternative
medicine techniques; we hold onto what is helpful in allopathic medicine
and understand that healing the eyes includes the body, mind, emotions,
energetics and spirit.
Mission
1. To provide classes that embrace integrative, complementary and
alternative medicine techniques to help work with a variety of vision
conditions.
2. To create a community of like-minded professionals interested in
working with vision in an integrative and intra-professional manner.
Schedule
Classes will be available 4 times a year seasonally beginning Spring
2010.
CLASS OFFERINGS
The following are the classes that will be available.
Workshop 1
Vision and the Body/Mind
Instructor: Ingrid Bacci Ph.D.
This one-day experiential workshop is based on the principle that
improved mind-body awareness can contribute to improving vision. The
workshop demonstrates how certain mental patterns and related
neuromuscular tensions can negatively impact visual function, and
explores the following:
a) techniques to release subtle neuromuscular tension so as to enhance
vision
b) techniques to enhance whole-body gestalt awareness and improve visual
function
c)the relationship between enhanced sensory awareness, decreased mental
Beta wave activity, and visual function
d) the relationship between skeletal balance (achieved through mind-body
techniques) and enhanced visual function
Chinese Medicine, Functional Medicine and Vision
Instructors: Marc Grossman O.D. L.Ac. and Andy Rosenfarb N.D. L.Ac.
This class will give a comprehensive nutritional, herbal, diet,
lifestyle and Chinese Medicine approach to common eye conditions with
attention to the etiology of specific eye diseases and treatment
strategies. You will learn how to teach your patients the basics of
self-care utilizing nutritional protocols, diet, acupressure, Qigong and
eye exercises to improve vision.
Workshop 2
Psycho-Behavioral Vision, Applied Kinesiology and Nutrition
Instructors: Marc Grossman, O.D., L.Ac. and Andy Rosenfarb, N.D., L.Ac.
This class can mean a quantum shift in your practice’s effectiveness and
income. Experience applied kinesiology for yourself to evaluate the
phenomenal effectiveness of these techniques.
What You Will Learn
1. A psycho-behavioral model of vision to help identify the root causes
of many vision conditions.
2. In just one day, you will be ready to apply these breakthrough
techniques in your practice on Monday morning - even with your toughest
cases! No machines or computer programs are necessary. Just bring
yourself and your curiosity: this method can be easily learned in one
day.
3. Learn how to rapidly get to the "core" of the true causative factors
in complex vision conditions and gain new clinical insights into the
difficult cases that have failed to respond to your best efforts.
4. Research-based nutritional protocols for over 25 visual conditions.
Workshop 3
Osteopathic Medicine and Vision
Instructor: Stacey Grifman, D.O., P.T.
1. To understand how vision influences structure and vice versa.
2. To learn how detection and treatment of visual strains in infants and
children can positively affect growth and development.
3. To understand the behavioral approach to assessment and correction of
visual disturbances that is, the overall model of behavioral optometry
vs traditional eye care.
4. To learn how to do simple visual/postural screening in order to see
which patients may need intervention.
5. To learn how to evaluate postural/visual strains in adults and how to
treat them in an integrated way.
Workshop 4
Homeopathic Medicine and Vision
Instructor: David Kramer
This class presents the essential information regarding Homeopathy in
the treatment of eye disease. It is important that the primary care
optometrist understand the basics of homeopathy and be able to educate
patients on benefits and risks of this treatment modality.
Course Learning Objectives:

2. Dry Eyes
3. Ocular Pain and Migraine
4. Glaucoma
5. Corneal problems
6. Macular Degeneration
7. Strabismus
Workshop 6
Vision and Spirituality and Magnetic Field Distortions
Instructor: Catherine Sweet, D.C.
The aspects of spiritual awareness and our physical vision are
interlinked in a perception of what we each experience daily and
nightly. Do we see actually with our physical eyes or is it our
interaction with frequencies and senses that describe to us our sight?
Let’s look at energetic possibilities, as we interact with our
environment and alter our reality.
Our mental body is the link we each have to our personal reality. This
mental body is constantly evaluating frequencies through our senses so
we might interpret our experience. Of course these senses react to color
and light but also to geometric shapes, magnetic fields, subtle energy,
lattice structures of crystals, smells/odors, sounds, and thoughts.
We are all registering waves of light in many forms and interpreting
them through our senses. Through ancient spiritual maps we have clues to
the truth of vision and an altered reality. Through multi-dimensional
vision we ‘see’ a new interpretation of our reality. The potential for
instantaneous healing lies in our spiritual vision. Can we begin to peel
the onion layers of illusion away from our vision? Energy that blocks
our true reality of ourselves is the mental perception of how we see our
world. We see on many levels and interpret our experiences on many
levels.
These simple steps begin the path to uncovering our healing so we may
move toward our highest potential by looking at the multiple levels of
vision. How we see the world creates the world we see.
Workshop 7
Vision and Yoga
Instructor: Daniel Orlansky, M.A.,
"The eyes are windows to the soul, and the soul, a window to the
infinite."
Taught by a Meridian Yoga teacher and shiatsu therapist, Daniel Orlansky,
this class presents comprehensive and holistic approaches to improving a
variety of vision conditions. It combines Meridian Yoga, relaxed
awareness meditations and shiatsu (acupressure therapy).
In this class, you will learn to improve and preserve eyesight through:
• Meridian Yoga stretches to support better vision
• Bates Method exercises
• Breathing exercises (pranayama) that help the eyes
• Shiatsu and acupressure points for the eyes
Workshop 8
Exploring the Dynamics of Vision and Posture
Instructor: Mark Fillipi, D.C
The integrity of the relationship between vision and posture determines
the conversational tone of the nervous system. It has been estimated
that 90% of the brain’ sensory input comes from visual sources. Even
20% of posture is associated with vision. The most powerful influences
on learning potential are concrete, vivid images.
Enhanced clarity, creativity and insight have been associated with a
posturally modulated phenomenon called cortical facilitation. The
confluence of other related systems, ranging from vagal and frontolimbic
activity to the architecture of the retina itself, help us distinguish
memory from experience. After a review of related clinical concepts, a
series of interactive group exercises will be used to illustrate these
axioms.
Workshop 9
Moving Vision
Instructor: Sam Berne, O.D.
Dr. Berne writes: The eyes are an amazing portal into systemic,
emotional/spiritual health. Physically, they reflect balance in the
nervous system. Emotionally and spiritually, they reflect our history.
Many of us store emotional/spiritual baggage in our visual system. Dr.
Berne’s therapies can begin releasing and healing these stored, frozen
perceptions. Dr. Sam Berne is a pioneer in holistic health, and has
developed a method for working with the visual system to balance one’s
physical and emotional well being. In this workshop called Moving
Vision, he incorporates a variety of mind-body therapies to help open
spiritual vision. He will guide participants on a spiritual journey
using the eyes, brain, and body to open into to one’s greater vision.
Participants will have the opportunity to:
· Experience movement that helps transform reptilian to mammalian
responses in the brain
· Expand one’s spatial perception using the body as a vehicle for
increased awareness
· Use Color Therapy and Tuning Forks to balance the body energy flow
Please bring a journal and wear comfortable clothing.
Dr. Berne writes, “I invite you to join me for playful expansion and
greater insight into yourselves”.
Workshop 10
An Integrated Model of Vision
Instructor: Randy Schulman, M.S., O.D., F.C.O.V.D.
Dr. Randy Schulman presents a unique course on an integrated model of
vision care. She takes the Skeffington 4 circles and looks at them in
terms of physical, chemical, mental, emotional, spiritual and energetic
considerations. She will talk about collaboration between the
optometrist and various disciplines and discuss how optometric findings
can be used along with intuition to optimize not only visual health but
total well being of mind, body and soul and a feeling of connection in
this life.
Please give us feedback on the courses your most interested in so we can
schedule accordingly. Also if there is any other type of classes you
might be interested please contact me with your input. All classes will
be audio or video taped with those tapes available for purchase.
